Ecards fulfill the original purpose of Thanksgiving. When the Pilgrims had survived a severely trying first year in North America, they celebrated their well being and good fortune with a feast. Pilgrim and Native American neighbors came together, sharing each other's delicacies honoring the abundance upon which they thrived.

The original meal had a variety of foods, many of which we no longer eat on Thanksgiving, some not at all. The Native American, Squanto, who spoke English himself, had taught the colonists how to plant corn and catch various animals and seafood of the region. Upon the first Thanksgiving table were Turkey and chicken (so far so good), goose and duck (well, we’ve heard of those), venison, and a bounty from the sea including eels (uh, how do you stuff those exactly?).

Each of the now traditional main Thanksgiving foods are foods that originate in the Americas: Turkey, potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and corn.

The date of the original feast in 1621 is lost to us and the dates have changed many times in the first decades of our nation’s history. Abraham Lincoln finally settled the matter declaring the last Thursday of November as the day of giving thanks together.

Togetherness is the theme of the day. And if you cannot be with everyone you hold dear on Thanksgiving, you can certainly include them by reaching out and touching their senses and their heart with a colorful, animated greeting card sent whizzing instantly to them via the internet.
